Affect vs. Effect
posted on Nov 16 by Miss-InkOne of the most common questions that we receive at Miss Ink is what is the difference between ‘effect’ and ‘affect.’ In this week’s grammar refresher we’re going to break it down for you. It’s actually pretty simple once you learn the tricks to remembering the meanings.
Effect:
Used when you are trying to convey a result or to say that something was caused.
Example:
The team’s new physical training regimen had a positive effect on its performance.
Affect:
Most commonly used as a verb and means ‘to influence.’
Example: The rain will affect water restrictions.
Quick Trick: Lessontutor.com lists a great trick for remembering the difference between these two words: How does the effect affect you?
