LARRY S. FORMAN SELECTED AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE SIXTH ANNUAL “JOURNEY OF DREAMS” COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD Award given by Parent to Parent of Miami

MIAMI – November 10, 2010 – On Saturday, November 6, Larry S. Forman was awarded the sixth annual “Journey of Dreams” Community Leadership Award by Parent to Parent of Miami at a ceremony held at the JW Marriott. The award is bestowed upon an individual who has demonstrated and sustained leadership practices in the community that have resulted in strong partnerships for the benefit of children and adults with disabilities. Mr. Forman, founder and director of Comprehensive Rehabilitation Consultants, Inc. and Children’s Rehab Network, was chosen for the award based on his vision, leadership and perseverance.  He is a long-standing advocate for people with disabilities making the difference in the lives of children and families. His work involving people with special needs is recognized on a local and national level and he has participated on various boards and committees including Shake-a-Leg Miami, the Florida Brain Injury Association, and the President’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. “Our goal is to work together to make sure individuals with disabilities are seen as people first,” said Mr. Forman in his acceptance speech. “People with unique needs should and can be treated fairly and equally. The goals still haven’t been reached and there are still battles for us to fight.  I know that Parent to Parent will continue to be the leader that it has been and will continue to embrace parents of younger children, bringing them into the fold and giving them the support that they need.” “Larry’s heart is filled with love and compassion. The Journey of Dreams Benefit Awards were created to recognize and honor individuals in Miami-Dade who are dedicated to improving and promoting initiatives that benefit children and adults with disabilities and their families. About Larry S. Forman Larry S. Forman is the founder and director of Comprehensive Rehabilitation Consultants (CRC) and the Children’s Rehab Network (CRN), providing medical case management, rehabilitative and habilitative services, guardianship and trust planning, vocational assessments job placement and day treatment for medically fragile and technologically dependent children. Larry holds a master’s degree in education and counseling with a major in mental retardation and physical disabilities from the University of Miami.  He also holds Juris Doctor degree from Nova University Law Center where he took courses related to law and the disabled. In addition, he is certified as a medical rehabilitation administrator, a rehabilitation counselor, a vocational evaluator, a work adjustment evaluator, a case manager, a disability manager, and a life care planner. He has worked both full-time and part-time in the rehabilitation field since 1972. Larry spent time as teacher and a director of continuing education for the disabled at Miami-Dade College where he coordinated continuing education programs for adults with disabilities, developed job-training programs and was a job placement specialist. He also directed the Sunland Center, a 900-bed Florida state residential facility, before becoming the program supervisor for Florida’s Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services Retardation Program District 11 office, which is now known as the Agency for Persons for Disabilities (APD). In addition to his work at CRC and CRN, Larry regularly speaks at numerous conventions and workshops on a variety of disability issues. He is also highly active in the community serving on boards and committees of such organizations as Shake-a-Leg Miami, the Florida Brain Injury Association, and the State Protection and Advisory Board.
